2018 Hamvention Trip!

Itinerary

• Wednesday - Arrive in Dayton
• Thursday - Visit the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB, brief stop at Mendelson's Liquidation Outlet
• Friday-Sunday - HAMVENTION (Green County Fairground in Xenia, Ohio)
• Sunday - Return home

Transportation

To/From Dayton

Each participant needs to come up with their own travel arrangements to the Dayton area.

Mike KG5LAT and I are planning on driving from Dallas on the Friday or Saturday preceding Hamvention as we are going to visit some auto museums in the Indiana and Michigan area,

If you plan to fly, flying directly to Dayton is the most convenient, but Cincinnati and Columbus are close enough to drive. The last few years, flying into Columbus was the cheapest (from Dallas). If you are not flying with someone that will be renting a car, it's probably best to fly to Dayton so you can be picked up from the airport.

Around Dayton

There are going to be enough people driving up I think that, if you fly, we'll probably be able to accommodate you if you fly into the Dayton airport.

Hotel Arrangements

I have four rooms booked at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Dayton South - I-675, 7701 Washington Village Drive, Dayton, Ohio. Each room has two queen beds. I'm assuming two people sharing a room, unless your really friendly, which I'm not.

Each room, including taxes, is $606 for the weekend, $303/each for double occupancy (as requested, Landon and Andrew will be staying Thursday through Sunday).

I continuously look for better deals, or similar pricing at extended-stay locations for Holiday Inn and Marriott properties. A few years ago I was able to get two bedroom suites at a Marriott Residence Inn near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for about the same price, but those rates are hovering around $230/night now.

I will keep all of these rooms booked until the Friday prior to Hamvention (I can cancel them up until the day before).

Hamvention Parking

Your Hamvention admission ticket includes parking.

There are four remote lots as well as the main parking area at the Fairgrounds]\ (the use of which will be weather dependent). The main Hamvention page for parking info is http://hamvention.org/travel-parking/directions/.

Remote Lot 1A and 1B appear to be closest to the hotel. 1A is a closed car dealership at 3401 Seajay Drive in Beavercreek, and 1B is a closed grocery store at 3325 Seajay Drive in Beavercreek.

Legal Disclaimer

I only have one hard and fast rule: If you stay in one of the hotel rooms I book, you're responsible for your share of all four nights, whether you come later than Wednesday or leave earlier than Sunday. One year I went with a group from Michigan, and some guys left a day earlier and it got into a mathematical mess figuring out exact shares.

That being said, if you are 100% certain that you will be attending and want to see if the room reservation can be changed, and are willing to prepay early, I can call and see what adjusting a room's dates will do to the price. Remember, I have had these rooms booked for a long time to ensure availability.

My only other rule is I'm not stickler for exactness when I calculate who owes what for sharing gas and rental car with me. I'll let you know what I paid and you can pitch in what you feel is fair. Life is too short to do math!
